Firewire Not Working Windows 10

This article describes an issue that occurs when you use a FireWire port-based device in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8. Additional steps of configuration is required to enable this update after the installation.

Windows 10 firewire update

Download the Microsoft Firewire 1394 Legacy Driver Installer; Double-click to run the 1394OHCILegacyDriver.msi file. This will extract the drivers to: C: Program Files (x86) 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy). The Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle does not work for capturing old VHS tapes without a TBC (time base corrector). The Intenisty Shuttle is also discontinued. I would recommend the ADVC 110 (also discontinued) for VHS capture not the Intensity Shuttle. IEEE Firewire OHCI has always worked for me on any Windows System (even 8 and 10). I cannot upload video from my HDV camera via Firewire after automatic upgrade to Windows 10. It was working fine in Windows 7, however, import/capture video from firewire (E1394) is no longer working. I tried to reinstall drivers, legacy drivers, reinstall software - nothing works.

Disconnect all other FireWire devices. Try connecting the unit to a different FireWire port on the computer. Try using the second FireWire port on the back of the unit (note: the original 828 does not have a second FireWire port). Has PCI slots and then get a firewire 400 card that uses 12v power. The system needs to be running windows 7 because windows 8 and 8.1 and 10 do not use the legacy.

Symptoms

Assume that you have a computer that equips with an IEEE 1394 FireWire controller card. After you upgrade the computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, devices that connect to the computer by using a FireWire port do not work.

Cause

This issue occurs because the legacy 1394 bus drivers (1394bus.sys and Ochi1394.sys) are removed in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.

Additional package information

  • This driver is only intended to work with legacy 1394 host controllers. Therefore, you may experience lower transfer data rates than the 1394b driver.

  • The driver is intended to resolve compatibility issues for 1394 peripherals on 1394b systems. If you are not experiencing these issues, you should continue to use inbox drivers that are provided in Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.

  • You have to reinstall this stand-alone driver package if you upgrade to a newer operating system version in the future.

I had this problem with Windows 10 that my Canopus ADVC-55 didn't work straightaway. I tried WinDV and Adobe Premiere and but problem remained. This fixes problem if your capture device doesn't give you any image, and this fix works on Windows 7, 8 and 10.

1. Open up startup menu by clicking windows icon from bottom left, and after that just write device manager. After that click Device Manager link.

2. Find IEE 1394 host controllers -section and double click your host controller.

3.Click Driver -tab and after that Update Driver.

4. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Working

5. Click Browse my computer for driver software.

6. Select 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller.

7. Click Close and after that you should restart your computer.

Firewire Drivers Windows 10

And thats that! In my case Windows 10 selected Texas Instruments driver by default and for some reason it doesn't work right. This problem has occurred on Windows 7, 8 and 10, but its easy to fix just by selecting different driver. If you find this tutorial helpful, please leave a comment!
